Used in a variety of applications, veneers are a versatile cosmetic procedure for dentists and patients. Veneers can disguise a number of teeth issues, including stained or discolored teeth, cracked, misaligned or chipped teeth, or spaces and gaps between teeth.
Veneers are a wafer-thin ceramic shell that is molded and custom fit before it is attached to the existing tooth structure of a patient.
The process will require 2 or 3 visits to your dentist. There will be a discussion between the dentist and the patient that will determine the shape and look of the veneer.
Once a plan is in place, the dentist will prepare the teeth. Depending on the condition of the patient’s teeth, some room may be created so the veneer can be applied. This may result in the removal of about a half-millimeter of enamel from the existing tooth structure.
An impression is taken of the existing teeth, which is sent to a dental lab for fabrication. While the veneer is being fabricated, the patient will wear a temporary veneer for 2 or 3 weeks. When the new veneer is ready, it will be bonded in place to ensure a bright, new smile for years.
